City Comparison

Six cities, one question: could you build a normal Tuesday here? Pick what matters most to see where each city starts. This is an editorial read of the research, not a score or a safety ranking.

I am prioritizing
Black and queer, in the same roomDo not assume a Black group welcomes queer people, or that a queer space welcomes Black people. Go to a general queer event and a Black queer event. Then ask: do people here support each other all year, or only on Pride weekend?
Places to start looking

A listing does not prove a business is open, skilled, or safe for you. A national group does not prove there is an active scene in your city.

What this means for your decision. Choose your neighborhood around your regular life, not around downtown. If you cannot find your barber, your pharmacy, your clinic, and your people after a week in a city, you are choosing a postcard.

●●● = strongest starting point in the research for the chosen priority. ● = weakest. “Verify” = the research did not establish it, which is not the same as absence. Rents are Statistics Canada advertised asking rents for a 2-bedroom, Q1 2026. Comfortable-month ranges are editorial planning ranges for two adults, before income taxes.
